Laundry Studio

I interned at Laundry Studio during the Spring term of my Senior year. Here, I created patterns to be sold to apparel brands and lifestyle brands. I experimented with a variety of mediums, ranging from cyanotyping to the parts of Illustrator I’d never explored. Working with patterns gave me the opportunity to experiment with unique color palettes and explore concepts as far as I can stretch them. I like that there are few restrictions when it comes to pattern making. My favorite thing about the process was watching my ideas snowball from literal interpretations into abstract outcomes.

The Problem

I was tasked with creating a pattern for Run In Rabbit, a running apparel brand. This pattern would be used across various clothing items for their Summer 2024 collection.

The Process

I first started by doing market research, analyzing color, shape, and texture trends among competitors and the brand itself. I noted that Run In Rabbit typically use abstract shapes in their designs. I wrote down all my observations, then began sketching.

Inspired by duo-tone illustrations, I drew a jogging silhouette, following a different set of rules, until I filled the page.
